American Health Research
American Health Research employs Clinical Research Coordinators, Data Entry Coordinators, Clinical Research Assistants, Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinators, a Recruitment Specialist, and a Regulatory Specialist that specialize in quick study start-up, patient recruitment, collecting good quality data and patient retention. We all follow a set of standard operating procedures as well as trial protocols, Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA guidelines to provide a smooth clinical trial process for all involved.
American Health Research is a clinical research company located in Charlotte, North Carolina dedicated to obtaining quality data in healthcare and pharmaceutical research. Dr. Selwyn Spangenthal has 20+ years of clinical research experience. American Health Research focuses on Phase II, III, and IV clinical trials. Subjects for research studies are generated from our large pulmonary practice and large patient database.

Kelly Field, BS, CCRC
Kelly joined American Health Research in April of 2008. She has been in the research field since 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from UNC-Charlotte. Her clinical research experience includes COPD, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, hypertension, ED, and overactive bladder. She enjoys skiing, running, and spending time with her husband and children.
Stephanie Hunter, MS
Assistant Director, Director of Education
Stephanie joined American Health Research in July 2014. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from UNC – Charlotte. Stephanie was born and raised in Massachusetts. She enjoys running and spending time with her family.
Chris Thompson, PA
Respiratory Care Practitioner
Chris joined American Health Research in June 2007. He has 21 years of experience in Pulmonary Function Testing and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing. Chris started his course work at the University of Miami in 1989, and completed his Respiratory Therapist degree with ATI College of Health in 1991. He is also the creator of “CPET BUDDY”, a stress test assistance software.
Marketing and Community Outreach Director
Connie joined American Health Research in April 2014. She has been in the medical sales field for 17 years and she has owned a yoga studio and holistic healing center. When she returned to the work force, she specialized in respiratory equipment sales before joining AHR where she is able to incorporate her love of community outreach and education. In her spare time, Connie enjoys spending time in nature, hiking, teaching and practicing yoga, reading, and traveling.
Jeanette Scinto, BSN
Clinical Research Coordinator, OSHA Compliance Officer
Jeanette joined American Health Research in March 2016 as a Clinical Research Assistant, and after two months she transitioned into a Clinical Research Coordinator. Jeanette has enjoyed her time at AHR and looks forward to continuing to grow within the company. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 2014 from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. When she’s not in the office, Jeanette enjoys dancing, playing the piano, hiking, and relaxing with friends, family, and her dog.
Jessica Italia, BS
Clinical Research Coordinator
Jessica joined American Health Research in May of 2015, beginning as an intern. She graduated in May 2016 from Queen’s University of Charlotte majoring in Interdisciplinary Health Services. She fell in love with research, and looks forward to growing with the company and furthering her knowledge and development as a coordinator. When she is not in school or working, Jessica enjoys playing with her dogs, outdoor activities, and hanging out with her family.
Lindsay Johnson, BS
Clinical Research Coordinator, HIPPA Compliance Officer
Lindsay joined American Health Research as a Clinical Research Coordinator in May 2017. Previously she worked at one of our sister sites, Clinical Research of Lake Norman, as a Clinical Research Assistant before transferring into her current role. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology. In her free time, Lindsay enjoys competing in the NPC figure division and spending time with her family and dog, Levi.
Clinical Research Assistant Intern
Meagan joined American Health Research as an intern in August of 2017. She is currently attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte working towards her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In her free time, Meagan enjoys relaxing, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Nancy joined American Health Research in March of 2006. She has been involved with Regulatory Affairs since 2006. Before entering research Nancy worked in the administrative aspect of the medical field since 1993. She enjoys art, music, animals, and spending time with her husband and two poodles.
Nicole Carrigan, CCRC
Certified Clinical Research Coordinator
Nicole joined American Health Research in April of 2007. She started her career in research in 2004. Her clinical research experience includes COPD, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, ED, pulmonary hypertension, bronchiectasis, and overactive bladder. Nicole enjoys vacationing in the BVI, reading, music and spending time with her three daughters.
Tiffany North, BA
Lead Clinical Research Assistant
Tiffany joined American Health Research in May 2016. She received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Prior to joining our team, Tiffany served as a Corps Member in the AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps program assisting as a Media Representative with disaster relief. In her free time Tiffany enjoys photography, exploring Charlotte, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog Canon.
William Combs, MS, CCRC
Certified Clinical Research Coordinator
Will joined American Health Research in December 2014. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning and Chemistry minor at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in 2011, and then completed a Master of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC in 2014. He grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and enjoys exercising, reading, and cooking.
Dr. Selwyn Spangenthal
Dr. Selwyn Spangenthal is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology and is a Certified Physician Investigator through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). He studied medicine at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and attained his MRCP (Member of the Royal College of Physicians) in London, United Kingdom. His Pulmonary fellowship was done at Tufts New England Medical Center, 1980-1982. Dr. Spangenthal has been the Principal Investigator on numerous Clinical Research studies since 1987. Dr. Spangenthal is the leading physician at American Health Research and owner of all sites in the American Health Research network. Outside of patient care Dr. Spangenthal enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, running, yoga, watching movies, reading and going to the theater
Kathryn Jones, ACNP-BC, ACCL, MSN, RN
Kathryn joined Charlotte Lung and Health and American Health Research in July 2012. She received her Associate’s degree in nursing from Central Piedmont Community College and her BSN and Master’s degree in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her Post Master’s Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner was received at the University of South Carolina Columbia. Kathryn has been a State Representative for the Academy of Nurse Practitioners for 4 years and the President of Metrolina Coalition of Nurse Practitioners for 10 years.
