Clinical Research of Lake Norman is devoted to providing an exceptional experience for all those involved in the clinical research process. Through dedicated teamwork, integrity of data, and respect for patient safety, we strive to promote the advancement of medicine and facilitate the future of healthcare.

Clinical Research of Lake Norman (CRLKN) was founded May 2013. The site is owned by Selwyn Spangenthal, MD and operates under the American Health Research Network. CRLKN offers an expedited start-up process by centralizing contract and budget processing at American Health Research. The site demonstrates quick turn-around time on processing regulatory documents and utilizes a Central IRB.

Our Staff

Stephanie Hunter, Site Director, CRC 
Clinical Research Coordinator 

Stephanie joined our network in July 2014. she received an undergraduate degree in exercise science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Masters degree in exercise physiology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Stephanie enjoys working in the world of research as it is very exciting, groundbreaking, and rewarding. Stephanie enjoys working with the research patients and building relationships with each patient. She married in October 2016 and enjoys running and spending time with her husband.

Mary Messenger, CCRC 
Certified Clinical Research Coordinator

Mary joined Clinical Research of Lake Norman in August 2018. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Biochemistry from Augustana College and has a Masters in Public Health from Benedictine University. Outside of work she enjoys yoga, traveling and spending time with her cat, Clara.

Clinical Research Coordinator

Emily joined Clinical Research of Lake Norman in August 2018. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Towson University. Outside of work she enjoys exercising, traveling, and being outdoors.

Our Investigator

Sever Surdulescu, MD, FCCP 
Principal Investigator 
Dr. Surdulescu has been affiliated with Clinical Research of Lake Norman since January of 2013. Dr. Surdulescu came to the United States from Romania after completing medical school in 1992. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and later specialized in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Surdulescu earned certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine by passing his board examination in 1997. He earned board certification in pulmonary medicine in 2000, critical care in 2001 and sleep medicine in 2003.Dr. Surdulescu has provided pulmonary and critical care services in the Lake Norman area for nearly ten years. Dr. Surdulescu lives in Lake Norman with his wife and daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer and traveling.
