Clinical Research of Lake Norman

Clinical Research of Lake Norman (CRLN) was founded May 2013, is owned by Selwyn Spangenthal, MD and operates under the American Health Research Network. The benefit to the pharmaceutical sponsors is that CRLN offers an expedited start-up process by centralizing contract and budget processing at American Health Research. CRLN has a quick turn-around time on processing regulatory documents and utilizes a Central IRB.

Our Staff

Treacy McTier, BS, CCRC   
Site Director, Certified Clinical Research Coordinator

Treacy began her career at Clinical Research of Lake Norman (CRLN) in March 2016 as the Assistant Director. In August 2016, she was promoted to Research Site Director of CRLN. Prior to joining CRLN, she worked at Clinical Research of Rock Hill starting in January 2013. Treacy is passionate about Clinical Research, the advancement of medicine, and ensuring that staff meet or exceed the expected quality of work at CRLN. Treacy received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Research and Counseling from Liberty University in May of 2012. Her clinical research experience includes COPD, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, bronchiectasis, mycobacterium avium-intracellulare, smoking cessation, high triglycerides and flu. While out of office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, reading, tutoring high school math and English, and running.

Kensie Hayes
Assistant Site Director

Kensie joined the American Health Research Network in May 2016 as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Clinical Research of Lake Norman. She was promoted to Assistant Site Director at CRLN in May 2017. She has over 7 years of experience working in the Clinical Research Field. Her Clinical Research experience includes, COPD, asthma, diabetes, hypertension, kidney stones, gout, and flu. She enjoys spending time with her husband and pets, reading, cooking, and binge-watching TV series on Netflix. She and her husband are very excited to welcome their first son in December 2017!

Laurie T. Gazaille, RN, BSN, CCRC 
Certified Clinical Research Coordinator 
Laurie joined Clinical Research of Lake Norman in April of 2014. Prior to joining CRLN, she worked at American Health Research starting in October 2003.  She is a pulmonary nurse with more than 18 years of pulmonary medicine experience.  Laurie received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Her clinical research experience includes COPD, Asthma, Atrial Fibrillation, Diabetes, Smoking Cessation, Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia, and Metabolic Syndrome.  Laurie enjoys volunteering, traveling, and spending time with her husband and children. 

Marjorie Jean, BS
Clinical Research Coordinator

Marjorie joined Clinical Research of Lake Norman in July of 2016 as a Research Assistant. She was promoted to Clinical Research Coordinator at CRLN in October 2016. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Old Westbury in May of 2013 and her DA II Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2015. She enjoys spending time with her nephew, shopping, playing tennis, and going to the movies.


Our Investigator

Sever Surdulescu, MD, FCCP 
Principal Investigator 
Dr. Surdulescu has been affiliated with Clinical Research of Lake Norman since January of 2013. Dr. Surdulescu came to the United States from Romania after completing medical school in 1992. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and later specialized in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Surdulescu earned certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine by passing his board examination in 1997. He earned board certification in pulmonary medicine in 2000, critical care in 2001 and sleep medicine in 2003.Dr. Surdulescu has provided pulmonary and critical care services in the Lake Norman area for nearly ten years. Dr. Surdulescu lives in Lake Norman with his wife and daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer and traveling.
